Unemployment rate decreased from 3.4% in May 2018

The Veteran Employment and Training Service (VETS) posted an update on the Veterans unemployment rate.  The update indicated that the May 2019 veteran unemployment rate was 2.7%, down from 3.4% of a year ago in May 2018 representing the lowest veteran unemployment rate in the month of May since 2000. 

This compares to the non-veteran unemployment rate in May 2019 of 3.3% and is the 13th consecutive month where the veteran unemployment rate was equal to or lower than the non-veteran unemployment rate.

  • Non-veteran unemployment rate:  3.3%
  • Veteran unemployment rate: 2.7%
  • Women veterans unemployment rate:  2.7%
  • Gulf War-era II veterans: 2.8%
  • Gulf War-era I veterans: 2.1%
  • WW II, Korean War, and Vietnam-era veterans: 2.7%
  • Veterans of other service periods:  3.3%

  • Non-veteran unemployment rate:  3.3%
  • Veteran unemployment rate: 2.7%
