Baldor Electric settles with OFCCP for $2 million


Baldor Electric Co, has agreed to settle allegations of systemic discrimination stemming from it's applicant screening process at its Fort Smith, Arkansas facility.  Baldor Electric, owned by ABB Ltd of Zurich, Switzerland, manufactures industrial motors and generators and holds more than $18 million in federal contracts.  

Under the agreement, Baldor will pay a total of $2 million in back wages and interest to a class of 795 qualified women, Arican-Americans and job seekers of Asian and Hispanic descent who were denied the opportunity to advance to the interview stage when applying for production and laborers positions.  Baldor will also make at least 50 job offers to members of the original class as positions become available. In addition, the company has agreed to undertake extensive self-monitoring measures to ensure that all hiring practices fully compy with the law, including record-keeping requirements.
