Gwendolyn Young Reams Named Acting EEOC General Counsel


Reams worked as the Associate General Counsel at EEOC for the past 20 years

President Biden appointed Gwendolyn Young Reams as the Acting General Counsel of the EEOC.  Ms. Reams has served as the Associate General Counsel for Litigation Management Services at the EEOC for the past 20 years.  In her previous position, she was responsible for overseeing EEOC’s litigation program conducted through the 15 field legal offices throughout the country.  Additionally, she provided guidance and support to the regional attorneys in the field offices in all aspects of litigation, including developing and litigating cases under the agency’s Strategic Enforcement Plan. 

Reams also served as the Associate General Counsel for Appellate Services where she directed the EEOC’s nationwide appellate litigation program which included the filing of amicus curiae briefs and coordinating with the Solicitor General’s Office on briefs filed in the Supreme Court on behalf of the agency.  Other positions held while working at the EEOC included Executive Assistant to the General Counsel, Supervisory Trial Attorney, and Trial Attorney in the Systemic Litigation Division.

She received her Juris Doctor from the American University’s Washington College of Law and her undergraduate degree from Howard University.
