Charges increase but less litigation and monetary recovery, LGBT charges grow.  EEOC received a total of 91,503 charges.  Under the sex discrimination charges, 4,000 LGBT charges were filed, 1,650 were settled and $4.4 million was recovered.

EEOC recovered over $482 million, down from $525 million in 2015, broken down as follows:
  • $349.9 million for private-sector, state, and local government employees through mediation, conciliation and settlements;
  • $52.2 million through litigation; and
  • $82 million for federal employees.
